A. The best thing that you can do on your own is to drain the tank at least once every six months, though you may want to call a professional if your water heater is an older model.

A. An average hot water tank is expected to last 7-11 years, and if you are getting close to the 10-year mark, you should look at replacing it before your tank ruptures, especially if there is no floor drain within 4 feet of the tank.
